AVARA takes its name from the Estonian word for spacious and space, in every sense, is the idea the house is built on.

Rising from Mt Gibraltar’s dress circle in Mittagong, AVARA is a contemporary pavilion residence: three steeply gabled forms, pitched at a dramatic 60 degrees, gathered around a sheltered central courtyard. Mega shingles, dry stone and vertical timber meet matt basalt metal in a palette drawn straight from the escarpment, while raked ceilings and a soaring 4.5-metre entry give the interior a sense of volume rarely built in the Highlands.

Inside are five bedrooms – three on the ground floor with private ensuites, a central living, dining and kitchen pavilion opening to the courtyard, a separate lounge, a study and a wine cellar.
